Grace

Hello Worthy family!

Imagine with me all of us standing on the west coast shore of California.
The skies are beautiful, the surf is inviting, and we have been presented with a challenge:
Swim from this beach to the east shore of Hawaii.
“What?!” you say. “Are you kidding?? What kind of workout is this??”
We all start wading into the ocean, feeing the waves break against our legs. Some of us begin to dive into the challenge, while others of us do our best not to drown. And as the hours pass by, several of us drop off, not able to make it another stroke further, while the strong ones continue to power on. Eventually, even the strongest swimmer tires out, cramps and realizes they can’t make it. It is just too far, maybe even impossible.

This is not unlike our efforts to reach heaven. Some people are not as moral, maybe sinning with the “big things” of armed robbery, or murder. They were not able to swim very far from the shore. Then there are those who are “better,” but still doing wrong with lying and stealing. They were able to swim a little further, but still can’t complete the swim. Then there are the really good people. They serve the poor, attend church every Sunday, and don’t say cuss words. However, they still are not able to swim all the way to Hawaii.

Who will save us and how do we reach heaven?
Jesus.

Ephesians 2: 8-9 says,  “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”

There is nothing we can do to gain heaven, even on our best days. It is because of the sacrifice, death and resurrection of Jesus that we can not only live in heaven forever, but enjoy fellowship with the Father right now!
(1 John 1:3).

This is good news!! I cannot live good enough to gain heaven (or swim to Hawaii, thank goodness!).
I can trust in Jesus, put my faith in Him, and live for Him.

Have an amazing week!!

Love to you!!

Better Than Protein

In the Bible, in the Old Testament book of Nehemiah, we can find a short phrase which has the potential to make us stronger than any amount of protein we consume, any pre-workout we could ever drink, or any weight we could ever lift.

Nehemiah was a governor over the people of Israel in Jerusalem when they were rebuilding the wall around the city.  After the wall was built, the people held a celebration where God’s Law was read aloud to them and they declared the day to be holy.  The people were instructed to then eat and drink and enjoy the day.  The last phrase Nehemiah, and the priest named Ezra, said to the people was “for the joy of the Lord is your strength”.

“For the joy of the Lord is your strength”

Happiness is based upon current circumstances and can wane.  Joy is an attitude which is rooted in those deep seated things that no one can take away from you.

We all need to ask ourselves where our true joy comes from.  For the people of Israel back in the Old Testament times, it came from knowing God, His Word and His promises to them.  We are taught in Scripture that God is love and in Him there is no sin or falsehood, He will never leave us or forsake us, He is the beginning and the end, He is patient with us, He doesn’t want anyone to perish but to have eternal life through faith in His Son Jesus, He is forgiving, He is a perfect Father to the fatherless, He is the light of the world, He is full of grace and truth and much much more.

At Worthy, I have started to coach some of the Strength sessions in the early mornings, and the goal of those sessions is...well, you guessed it, to increase our strength.  It is very impressive how much weight many of you can lift and almost everyone sees improvement weekly.  With those improvements-and ‘gold stars’ we accumulate-comes a certain sense of joy and happiness and accomplishment.

What I would like to suggest, is that we all begin to seek the joy that comes from knowing God, knowing His Word (the Bible), and knowing His promises to us.  God, and the joy He brings is something that no one can take away.

So today, let the joy of the Lord be your strength.

Change of Seasons

He changes times and seasons; he deposed kings and raises others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him”.

Daniel 2: 21-22

Good morning Worthy family!

As we will soon enter into the fall season I can’t help but reflect on the summer and how at least for myself how challenging it was. One thing that I learned this year is that life is full of seasons. We will have seasons where we have plenty, seasons of uncertainty, seasons of recovery, and we also have dry seasons. The worst seasons seem like it’s never ending and the best seasons seem like they go too fast. During each season God will give us  what we “need” in order for us to be our best selves  Each season is a time of preparation for what is to come.

Many of us would be much more comfortable if things always stayed the same, but yet it doesn’t.I love the changing of seasons in nature particularly fall but, The changing of seasons in life can be scary. It’s always good to be still and understand who you are and where you’re at in your life right now. We can be fruitful no matter what is going on in our lives if we take the time to embrace the good and bad moments and learn from them. No matter how dark life may seem or how plentiful  your blessings  are God has a purpose to mold and grow you through this particular season.

Change is constant and without change we cannot grow mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. with change comes new habits. What habits do you need to develop? What habits do you need to stop? Are you working towards the kind of person you want to be?

One month from now we will begin assessment week. A time where we test ourselves in strength and endurance. It will also highlight our strengths and weakness. Just like our workouts in each seasoned life we must continue to build on our strengths and work on our weaknesses. Have a great week!

Peace and Love

Energy is Contageous

How are you feeling today? Take a look at yourself. Are you exerting positive or negative energy? Believe it or not, whatever you are thinking and feeling influences others. Are you smiling at others? Are you being kind and encouraging? Or are you the one complaining? Do you express anger, or have a depressing attitude about yourself or others? Where we put our mind is up to us!  Being positive or negative is not just about you. It’s also about everyone around you. That is why it is so important to choose a positive attitude!

While we can’t control everything that happens in life, we can control our attitude. If you want to be happy, start with your attitude. While it won’t change everything in your life, it certainly is a good start and helps your mental state. We can choose how we respond to the challenges we face.  Now, I know we all have a bad day now and then and should show ourselves (and others) grace. What I’m referring to is the energy that you exert on most days.

Sometimes we need to dig really deep to be optimistic, especially when we are in the center of a storm. We must try to focus on what is good and practice gratitude. Don’t let the negative thoughts tell you that you have no control over the energy you project to the world. Take that thought and give it to God and declare it to be a lie! Replace that thought with a bright and cheerful one. Pray. Practice deep breathing. Meditate. Call a friend. Listen to music. Fake it until you make it. Do whatever it takes to turn that thought around and lift yourself up. You will be happier for it, and the people around you will be too!

Much Love,

Coach Yvette

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Philippians 4:6-8 NLT

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.

 Proverbs 17:22 NLT

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit.  I Thessalonians 5:16-19 NIV

Take Heart!

Worthy Fam! Murray here...

Sorry for the delay.  I've had this devo on my heart for a few weeks now and it's been tough for me to sit down and actually get it out.

Asking for a friend.. do you sometimes think, "Why is it that every time I do a Worthy workout it's so hard?" With each workout as your stats get entered, we figure out your capabilities.  From there, every workout is specifically designed to challenge you and make you better.  Some dive into the workout with ease, others look at it beforehand, or perhaps like me, you have to spiritually, mentally, and/or physically prepare yourself.

Worthy has helped me to become a stronger person spiritually, mentally, and physically.  When the going gets tough are you a fight or flight person? Rather than my usual tendency to flee, my workouts have helped me to learn to fight through the tough.  You know that last 30 seconds of a 2K row or the first round of sprints on an endurance bike workout?

I find that this is true also with my faith walk.  I've had my ups and downs and have been challenged with situations that have me questioning, "Really God? How can I see this through?"  Knowing that He has my back through the good and bad, has taught me to push through and try to see through the tough.  In this life we may be faced with the hardships of natural disasters, sickness, pain, tragedy.. do we walk away from those things or persevere through them? John 16:33 says, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world!"

What He tasks us with will not always be easy, but I know that in the end my reward in eternity is worth pushing through the trials I may face.  You have an awesome community of friends within Worthy, too! If things get tough, we will come alongside you to help you through.  Whether it's a workout, a sickness, heartache, HE (and we) are here for you!

Trust in God During the Storms

“ Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing”.  1 Thessalonians 5:11

Good evening Worthy Family!

During some point in our lives as we grow in our faith we will undoubtedly go through challenges, struggles, Hurdles, or “storms”. The storms of life can cloud our thinking and disrupt our peace.  Storms are unpredictable and will come when you least expect them. The storm we may face  are teaching moments in our lives. If you are currently going through some challenges keep your head high in your faith! When dealing with a storm you must have

Trust

Whatever you’re going through trust that God hears you,  see you, loves you, and is working on you. Be still and present in your faith and you will get through anything! Trusting in God helps ease the pressure or “storms” we are dealing with at the time.

Community

God will place the right people around us at the right time. Worthy embodies what community is. Love, trust, and uplift your neighbor. Sometimes a simple word of encouragement goes a long way. You never know what someone is going through!

Presence

Storms come into our lives to deliver a message. Be still and present in the moment. When things become overwhelming close your eyes, take a deep breath and put your trust in him!

Attitude

We all have a tendency to “block our blessings” by doing things our own way. It is very easy to have a good attitude when things are going well, but a true test is when things are not going well. The storms of life reveal your true attitude. What adjustments do you need to make? Don’t do it on your own. Ask God to help you. He will provide wisdom and redirect you so you have the right perspective on what you’re going through.

All of you are amazing. Keep striving to become a better you physically, mentally, and spiritually!

Syl

God is LOVE

Hello Worthy family!

God is good! God is love!!

So simple yet so profound!! The Lord of the universe loves you and me!

“For God so love the world (or so loved YOU and ME!!) that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him will not die but have eternal life!!” John 3:16

Simple yet extravagant!

How do I know? Look around you today. You see His love for you in the beautiful sunset, or the singing birds, in a gift card and bouquet of flowers for someone hurting, in a homemade meal dropped off on the front porch for someone who is caring for a sick family member, a smile, a hug, a text to just check in.! Oftentimes, His presence is found in the caring words of a sweet friend, and the prayers of the Family.

All of these are God’s way of saying “I love you!” All these are God’s goodness to us, reminding us He is with us. Simple gestures of love, yet extravagant gifts to the heart.

Thank you dear WORTHY family for showing Jeff and me God’s love through your gifts of words, gestures, and checking in. It’s been a rough few weeks, and your love has helped to move us through.

God is good!! God is love!!

“Dear friends, Since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” I John 4:11

Love to you!!

WE ARE OVERCOMERS

After winter comes summer. After night comes dawn. And after every storm, there come clear, open skies. Samuel Rutherford

God will never allow a trial in our life that cannot help us. Yes, it may be painfully difficult to get through, but we are to look ahead and to persevere. He will take that terrible circumstance and turn it into a blessing. He makes beauty from ashes. We may not see it now or right away, but we will in the end. It is a truth we can find in his word.

We are overcomers. Life's obstacles can be scary and bring fear. I believe these obstacles are allowed in our lives to strengthen us. To strengthen us by tearing us down. I know that sounds awfully scary. But think about this, when we work out, we are strengthening our muscles, but by first tearing them down! Yes, our muscles are damaged due to the trauma we place on them during exercise. The size and severity of the tears depend on the exercise intensity. The tearing then activates cells from outside the muscle that rush to the damaged areas to repair and build them. The cells are used to heal and our muscles will rebuild and they will be stronger. This can be compared to the difficulties we endure. Some are more intense than others and cause more damage, and God is there to help us rebuild and heal. If we let Him help us, we will be stronger (and wiser) as a result of it!

So next time you experience diffulties, just remember, you've got this, and you're not alone!

Much love,
Coach Yvette

“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. ”
Matthew 17:20 NLT

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:12

Who are YOU Following?

Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. -Proverbs 10:17

Some days we lead, some days we follow.  Take care in choosing the right people to follow and be careful of your own path for those following you.  When we discipline ourselves to remain focused on God, we can lead those behind us to Christ. We help one another.  It's what we do. Who are you following?  Who are you leading? -Live Bold-

I have certainly made the mistake of letting the wrong people influence me at times in my life.  It is hard to recognize it in the moment if you don't have a solid foundation of morals, values, and faith.  Fortunately for myself, and all of you reading this email, Worthy is full of incredible people.  We have such a welcoming environment and when a new person walks in our doors they often see, and feel how amazing our community of people are.  If you are a bit new to Worthy, there is no shortage of people that are willing to encourage you and help you get adjusted.  If you are a veteren of Worthy, don't hesitate to assist us in leading others on the path to a healthier lifestyle.

In all situations we can choose to follow the wrong path or the correct path, to be a positive influence or a negative influence. Don't avoid people who may challenge you to be better and don't be afraid to challenge others to be better.  We are only as good as the company we keep.

Look forward to seeing you all this week!

Clean Up!

Worthy Fam! Coach Murray here.

Am I the only one who cleans before the cleaners come, attempted to get my food and/or fitness in check before joining the gym, or felt like I had to get "right" before accepting Christ into my life? WHY?? For me, I think it's hard to show others what a mess I am or I have feelings of shame.  I still clean before the cleaners, and was forced to join the gym when I married Mark ;), but I had to just jump right in when it came to my faith!

By choosing to be a part of the Worthy family, we know that if we show up we will be accepted, challenged, encouraged, educated, and held accountable. That doesn't mean that we won't experience setbacks, have bad days, click with every other gym goer we meet... BUT we will be in community with others that are seeking the same overall goal in a loving, positive, and encouraging environment.

AND it's the same with faith.  Until I truly made the choice for myself, I thought I had to "clean up" first.  I was failing miserably AND THEN THE WORDS HIT HOME.  Every verse, every lyric, every promise became personally mine. If you're not a believer or have stepped away from your faith because of a hurt or hangup - WHAT CAN YOU DO? Talk to me, Mark, Syl, Michelle, Mary, Yvette or a friend that knows Jesus! Or in the privacy of your car, home, shower, etc.. do the ABC.

  • A—Admit that I am a sinner (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23).

  • B—Believe that Jesus is God’s Son, that He died for me, and that His death can save my soul (John 3:16, Romans 5:8-10).

  • C—Confess that He is my Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-13).

We love you and we're all in this together!

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8-10 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies,we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life

Romans 10:9-13 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Hope!

Hello Worthy family!

Jeremiah 29:11.
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

Wow! We certainly had a long winter! It’s so good to see the sunshine, birds singing, the snow melted and the temps on the rise. The wonderful thing about winter is knowing Spring is around the corner. We have that hope, the confident expectation, that we will see the flowers bloom, the grass become green again, and warmer, longer days.

Commonly when someone uses the word “hope,” what they really are saying is that they “wish” something would happen, like “I hope I can lose weight” is really “I wish I can lose weight.”  But in the Bible hope is the confident expectation of what God has promised and in His faithfulness. Its far more than a wish.  We can count on it, and we can count on Him.

So as we wait for Spring to officially be here, and we wait for the next step forward in our personal lives, and we put our hope in the Lord, it is so much more than a wish. We have the confident assurance that He has the future, and his plans for us are for good.

My challenge to you is, are you wishing for the future, or do you truly have a hope, a confident expectation, a trust in the One who’s promises are true. What or who is YOUR hope in?

Have a beautiful week!!

Coach Mary

Progress Over Perfection

“We Rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”  Romans 5:3-5

Good Evening Worthy Family!
I’m going to dive right in with a question I want you to ask yourself. Do you value perfection over progress or progress over perfection? Before reading any further,

I want you to honestly look at yourself and answer the question truthfully. Once you have answered the question lets dive a little deeper, “Why?”

If you have a tendency to focus on perfection over progress, it’s time to change your mindset. Expect to stumble along your health journey, but be committed to trying your best day in and day out.

If you have developed the habit of focusing on progress, I encourage you not only to continue with that mindset, but be encouraging to your neighbor who may be struggling with things like self confidence, body image, and perfection.

The truth is we will never be perfect and although, striving for perfection sounds great in theory, it is very damaging to the spirit because we will never be able to fully  embrace the journey of being our best selves. So in your journey I challenge you to be:

  • Patient with yourself

  • Persistent in your journey

  • Powerful in your pursuit

One day at a time....

Have a great week!

Life Can Be Hard

Hello Worthy Family! My name is Yvette, and I've been training at WTF for almost two years now and just recently started as a coach in December. I've been a certified fitness trainer for over 10 years and love helping others accomplish their fitness goals. I've lived in Gahanna for over 16 years now and love the community, especially the community at WTF. I love that we support and encourage each other on all levels!

I hope you enjoy the devotion today, have a great week!

Life is hard. No matter who we are, hardships can be just around the corner. It could be your marriage ending, a medical diagnosis, your child making bad decisions, or the loss of a loved one.... all of these things are out of our control. They can break our heart and turn our world upside down in a blink of an eye. Some troubles are more tragic than others, but the struggle is still very real. My struggles are real, and so are yours.

I have nights that I wake up feeling anxious. I will lay there, tired as can be, with my eyes wide open and my mind racing. I wonder why God is allowing this to happen to me. And I pray, and when I pray I am reminded that the Christian life is not always easy. We live in this fallen world and are surrounded by heartbreak, sickness, death, and evil. Sometimes things happen to us as a result of another person's decision to choose sin. Their choice may have consequences that affect us even though we are walking with God and relying on his power and direction in our life. Sometimes the struggle is of our own doing. If we are not seeking God and his will, we may get in the way and cause our own trouble. We have been given free will to choose. To choose good or evil. To sin or not sin. To choose Him or the world.

The good news is, that God is here. If we turn to Him each and every time and turn over the struggle to Him, He is there. He may not remove or change what we are dealing with, but He will be there to walk through it with us. To comfort us, to love us, and to remind us of who we are. His child that can conquer all things through Christ. When adversity and struggles come our way, how will we react?

When going through a struggle, I often remind myself of this story:

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her.  She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling.  It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen.  She filled three pots with water.  In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and the last she placed ground coffee beans.

She let them sit and boil without saying a word.  In about twenty minute she turned off the burners.  She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl.  She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.  Then she ladled the coffee into a bowl.  Turning to her daughter, she asked, “Tell me what you see?”

“Carrots, eggs, and coffee,” she replied.

She brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots.  She did and noted that they were soft.  She then asked her to take an egg and break it.  After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.  Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee.  The daughter smiled, as she tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter then asked, “What’s the point, mother?”

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity… boiling water – but each reacted differently.  The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting.  However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.  The egg had been fragile.  Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior.  But, after being through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.  The ground coffee beans were unique, however.  After they were in the boiling water they had changed the water.

“Which are you?” she asked the daughter.  “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond?

Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?”

Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat?  Did I have a fluid spirit, but after death, a break up, a financial hardship, or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff?  Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean?  The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain.  When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor.  If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate to another level?

How do you handle the adversity?

ARE YOU A CARROT, AN EGG, OR A COFFEE BEAN?

"For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength. " (Phillipians 4:13 NLT)

“He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45b, NIV)

"2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow." (James 1:2-3 NLT)

Much love,

When the End Goal Seems Too Hard

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;      (2 Peter 1:5-6, NIV)

I saw this image and it really hit home for me – accomplishing a goal many times takes small steps.  The passage from 2 Peter gives us a recipe. We are reminded that to develop our relationship with God we must add incremental steps, such as self-control and perseverance.

The same can be applied to whatever our long-range goals are.  Often, we only focus on the big goal, which can seem daunting, and ignore the victories along the way.  If we start measuring our daily victories, the end goal does not seem so out of reach.  Small steps, accomplished through self-control and perseverance, are the key to big rewards in life.

Have a great week!

Make Each Step Matter

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. -Psalm 37:5-6

"Today, worry less about what is over the horizon or what will happen. You've wasted too many days over worries. Focus on your present place and the very next step ahead. Then trust in God to guide you to the next step, and the next, and the next."  -Live Bold-

Too often we look way too far ahead and become overwhelmed by the obstacles that stand in our way of achieving our goals.  I had very little confidence in my ability to graduate from college when I entered.  Nobody in my family had graduated from college, and only my oldest brother had given it a try to that point.  The beginning of each semester was always the same.  I would look at everything on the course syllabus and think....nope, not a chance! Then, I looked at ALL the classes that I needed to conquer in order to reach the goal of graduation...Yeah right!  Fortunately, I was forced to give it my best shot since I was an athlete and needed to maintain certain grades for eligibility.  Once I had survived for a couple semesters, I began to realize that I needed to just focus on one week, one month, and one semester at time. Gradually, I gained confidence, but I genuinely was amazed when I reached graduation day.

I learned how critical it was to have a process that breaks that big scary goal down into small steps.  Focus on achieving one small goal at a time, then again, and again, and again.  Many of you join Worthy questioning if you can really achieve your goals.  Yes, of course you can! Trust the process is what we love to say!  One session, one week, one month, one PR at a time.  Make some friends and become part of the community and commit yourself to making a lifestyle change and you can do it.

If you are a Browns fan, enjoy the evening. Go Browns!

Snowflakes!

Hello Worthy family!

Snowflakes!
Some people love ‘em, some would rather do without them. I personally think they’re beautiful, and I like them when they fall in bunches from the sky, especially if I’m at home, snuggled in a blanket, with a cup of coffee!

But the real reason why I think snowflakes are so incredible is that everyone one of them is unique. No two flakes are alike, so I’m told. They have glimmer curves and sparkly edges, not two alike! Beautiful!!

Worthy family, we just finished a great week of assessments! Wow! You rocked your PRs! I have a love/hate relationship with assessment week. I love to cheer all of you on, witnessing the amazing progress you have made with all your hard work and consistency! You all inspire me!
Congratulations on a great week!

The part I struggle with is when I compare myself to other’s progress. I get in my head, down on myself for not doing enough. So the areas I don’t PR in (and by the way, it’s unlikely that you will get a personal best in every area during assessments), I battle the ugly self-talk going on in my head! I can encourage others all day, but not myself.

That brings me back to snowflakes, beautiful, unique snowflakes! We are created much like a snowflake, but oh so much more valuable and priceless! Just as no two snowflakes are alike, no two persons are either. We all have strengths, and limitations. To compare ourselves to anyone is a trap that only leads down a dark, defeating trail. I encourage you all to be motivated by the success of others, letting them inspire you rather than discourage you. Celebrate your successes! Remember, we are all made unique, special, beautiful, and one-of-a-kind!

Think about that next time you catch a snowflake in your hand, or on your windshield.

Psalm 139:13-14.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made!

Matthew 10:30-31
But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore, you are of more value than sparrows. (and snowflakes)

Have a wonderful week!! Merry Christmas!

Assessment Week Eve

Happy Assessment Eve! This week comes a few times a year and likely brings many emotions.  Some of you are experiencing this for the first time, some of you OBC (Original Basement Crew) fam have been through it too many times to count.  This week of measurement is an exciting week with a TON of energy and amazing results.  Watching the Worthy Fam come together and support and encourage one another is really incredible.

On the other hand, for me (and likely some of you), feelings of doubt, fear, lack, failure, anxiety, or shame creep in.  I wanted to share one of my most powerful weapons with you.  I call it "SUITING UP" and it comes from the book of Ephesians.  I've had Coach Mark pray this over me and visualize putting on armor... IT WORKS.

"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:13-17

You WILL set new records, see improvement, and will be an encouragement to your fellow Worthy Fam this week.  You've got this, know that we are all rooting for you this week, and most importantly, YOU ARE WORTHY!

Attitude of Gratitude

I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me." Philippians 4:12-13.

This time of year is a time of reflection, gratitude, and stillness. We give thanks and break bread with family during Thanksgiving, we celebrate the birth of our savior in Jesus Christ on Christmas, and we look forward to a year of new beginnings on January 1st.

2020 to put it mildly has been an interesting year. So many highs and lows you would think we were on the longest roller coaster ride ever created. With the twists and turns we all have experienced this year we should still take the time to give thanks.

For the remainder of this year I want all of us to work on having an “Attitude of Gratitude “. That means we need to be thankful in all aspects of our lives on a regular basis. For example my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because I get to see all my family from different states and sometimes countries in one room. We sing, laugh, dance, play games, and watch football.

This year that didn’t happen, But I am still grateful. I am grateful We were still able to have a Thanksgiving meal, I am grateful that we had the resources to be able to purchase the food for the meal. I am also grateful I was able to call, text, and zoom family and friends on that day just to say I love them.

We sometimes forget how close our mind, body, and spirit are connected. By engaging in gratitude practices we become more appreciative of the things we have over the things we don’t. We also become more resilient in that we can always find the silver lining amidst the darkness.

Take the time every morning or evening to sit down and reflect on a few things you are grateful for. Write Down three things you are grateful for and you will experience more happiness, a stronger awareness of self, and oh a huge health benefit, less anxiety!

Have a good evening, and remember to have an Attitude of Gratitude!

Solving Your Problems

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. - Romans 8:28

"Facing a difficult task? Looking for an answer to your situation? Take a breather.  Often, we want to jump ahead of God and begin "fixing" things when it isn't our job. Remember, God is the puzzlemaster and He will assemble the pieces of your situation.  What you can't control is other people and circumstances.  What you can control is your responses and emotions. Today, focus on being the best you can be. Love God first and he will call upon your talents to complete His work in you, around you, and through you." -Live Bold-

2020 has been a long, difficult task.  This year has tested all of us in ways none of us ever imagined.  Back in March, we faced the gym being shut down and we had no idea what to expect.  That was when we learned just how strong and amazing our Worthy community was... and is.  We had people delivering each other groceries, donating dehumidifiers when basements got flooded, and all the while many of you managed to keep supporting the gym itself.  The response to the situation got us through and made us even stronger coming out of the shut down.

Now, with the threat another shut down of gyms once again, we have to consider our response.  We may not be able to affect Dewine's opinion on the safety of our gym, but we can maintain faith that we can manage whatever gets thrown our way.  We have done it once, we will certainly handle it again.  We have a blessed community and that can't be taken away, no matter what.  I don't know what next week will have in store for us. All we can do for now is continue doing what we have done all along to maintain a safe and healthy environment.  Everything will fall into place, we will continue on as a family, and have faith that we will persevere through this storm, together.  Do not fear, all things will come together for His good.

Great Family!

“People don’t grow where they are merely informed. People grow where they are accepted.”

This is a quote by one of my favorite authors, Bob Goff (author of Love Does, and Everyone, Always). When I read it the other day, it struck me that WORTHY is a place where people grow from being accepted. That acceptance comes not just from Mark, Murray and the coaches, but from YOU, the WORTHY family! Often, as I am walking into the gym, I hear you all cheering each other on, encouraging each other to take it to the next level, to push it past the pain and breathlessness. You, WORTHY family, show concern for a fellow athlete who hasn’t been to a session for a while, or for one who has to take a break because of family concerns, as well as support for a new mom. THIS is one reason why WORTHY is such a unique place! Yes, we learn and gather great information about fitness, and nutrition to encourage us in our health journey, but I believe one of the reasons we come back session after session is because of the acceptance and love we give, and we receive.

You are the BEST!!

"So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others as more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."
Philippians 2:1-4

Have a great week!
